Picos de Europa

Picos de Europa is the mountain range located in northern Spain belonging to the central part of the Cantabrian mountain range. Although not very extensive, its proximity to the sea makes them lavish in landforms of great interest, and deep chasms.

They are divided into three differentiated ranges: The western mountains called “Cornión” was the first Spanish National Park, created in 1918 and was called “Covadonga Mountain National Park”. The Central range also called “Urrieles”, and the Eastern one, called Andara.
Currently, since 1995 the three ranges form Picos de Europa National Park, which is the second most visited national park in Spain. It is located between the regions of Asturias, Cantabria and Castilla-Leon.

The 9th of July 2003, Picos de Europa became part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.

Picos de Europa is a pale limestone formation, with steep slopes and sharp summits very impressive because of its great difference of elevations. The higher mountains get over 2600m and the lower points on the National Park start around 100m. Such a big difference and its geology formations, makes the National Park unique.
