RUTA EN 4X4 + RUTA DEL CARES de Caín a Poncebos

Vistas del Macizo Central

Cares route is one of the greatest shows at Picos de Europa.
We’ll pick you up at 9:45 am in Cangas de Onis and headed to the province of Leon across the N-625, better known as the “Beyos Gorge”, probably the largest gorge in the north of Spain. We will stop by a salmon farm where they raise them for latter on release them in to the Sella River. We will follow the course of the Sella River upstream, to discover the old path that unites Asturias with the Castellan plateau. Once in Leon Province we will lead into the Sajambres Valley. In Soto de Sajambre we will visit an old mill for grinding corn, built in 1873. Here we start the off road to Vegabaño forest, to reach a viewpoint located at 1500 meters high. We will continue down the path along the “Arcediano” Route, an ancient Roman road that falls into Oseja de Sajambre, where we will do a brief stop.
Once on our way again, we will take another off road path to arrive into another majestic mountain viewpoint, and later on, the source point of the Sella River, reaching the summits of the “Pontón” and “Panderruedas” mountain passes. This is probably one of the best places to see the highest peaks of Picos de Europa. Now we will descend to Posada de Valdeón and Cain, but before arriving, we will stop to visit the “Chorco de los lobos”, a wolf trap built before the seventeenth century to hunt wolves.
Around 14 hours, we will drop you at Cain, where our guides will give you some tips and explanations about the Cares Route. Over there you will have enough time to eat and to walk the path.
Around 19 hours,we will pick you up in Poncebos, the end of the Cares Route where we will discover the origins of the Route. We’ll go to down to Arenas de Cabrales, and hit our way back to Cangas de Onis, which is the end of the activity.
